UK Prepared to Utilize Immobilized Russia's Funds to Finance the Ukrainian Military Campaign

The UK is set to progress with utilizing the total value of immobilized Russia's funds to aid Ukraine's war effort, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a collective announcement, the heads of state of the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this joint measure would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and compel Moscow to participate in talks.

They further noted that the initiative would be implemented in close cooperation with the America.

UK sanctions have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russia's funds since Moscow began its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, funds sent to the Ukrainian government using Russia's assets had exclusively been sourced from profits and interest earned on them.

Sir Keir assured Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and Germany were in agreement in their aim to push forward toward utilizing the total worth of the immobilized Russia's state funds to end the war.

He added that additional measures in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on the Russian government.

This announcement comes after European leaders met in the Danish capital recently to consider utilizing immobilized Russian funds for a €140 billion loan to the Ukrainian nation.

Recently, President Donald Trump urged international partners to take or employ frozen Russian holdings, based on reports.

The value of frozen Russia's assets in the Europe is estimated to be nearly €211bn.

Russia executed large-scale aerial attacks throughout Ukraine on recently, leading to blackouts in many areas of Kyiv, the city, and eight other regions.

Several persons were killed and at least 20 people were hurt in the strike, the Ukrainian government reported.

In a post on an online platform after the strike, Zelensky stated that the strategic strike targeted public and utility structures.

"What's needed is not just talk but concrete steps - from the America, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in supplying defense mechanisms and applying penalties," he emphasized.

"Each restrictive measure diminishes the Russian war effort," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.

Additionally that day, Zelensky informed the press he would press Sir Keir to enter the PURL program, under which partner nations purchase military equipment from the United States to give to the Ukrainian forces.
