Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.
An important political figure stated the attack made him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
